7: The Magic Thread.
Richard Idemon. Red Wheel/Weiser 1996.

This book comes from seminars given in the 1980s. It has a strong psychological, Jungian approach and, reading it, you won't be surprised to find that the author was working with Liz Greene at the time. Idemon looks at the ideas of dominant and inferior functions, explaining the psychological defense mechanisms of denial, repression, projection, sublimation early on and relating how these can be found working in real people with real charts.

The concept I love in this book involves examining how a chart's planetary placements can be broken down into Personal, Social and Universal groupings and how this plays out in life. I haven't seen or heard this explained anywhere else and suspect it's a trick many of us astrologers miss. For this alone the book is worth buying.

This is not the only plus point. There are great examples examples given here, from some nasty, real life infamous villain (not the one you think), to some very intense client cases Idemon worked on. There is also a step-by-step guide to using the material presented. This is a very enjoyable, educational read, the audience contributes a lot the book it makes you think. Reading this certainly opened up some new avenues in how I looked at charts.
