3: Anima Mundi - The Astrology of the Individual and Collective.
Charles Harvey. CPA Press 2002.

This was the last book ‘written’ by the author. In fact it is the combination of transcripts of two seminars delivered by Harvey in 1992 and 1994 with material inserted from two magazine articles, so most of the words were spoken rather than written. Essentially it is a brilliant overview of the astrology of the collective, the idea that as individuals we are effectively ‘nested’ or subsumed (in some ways) within collective entities such as nation states and organisations such as, for example, political parties and companies. But, being a Charles Harvey book, there is much more to it than that. The astrological inter-relationships between Harvey and his material are explored; he looks at how his moment of birth describes many of his astrological concerns and the outcome of a visualisation-like session illustrates the power of the planets in the here and now. Slow moving planetary dyads (or duos) are also looked into; for example, he shows how the Saturn-Uranus cycle is concerned with incarnating (a Saturn theme) Uranian matters such as free enterprise, technological development and scientific discovery.

Harvey illuminates his work through examples including the Centre for Psychological Astrology, Germany (showing how the charts of The Holy Roman Empire, The 2nd German Empire, Bismarck, The Nazi Party, Hitler and the 1990 Reunification relate through specific degree areas), the United Kingdom, Russia and Spain (showing how the poet Lorca was astrologically attuned to express something of the Spanish soul).

Harvey was a visionary astrologer and brilliant communicator. The concepts he explores in this book are vital to a balanced understanding of the subject and are not found explained with such rigor anywhere else. In a changing, volatile world it is surely vital astrologers consider and incorporate these ideas into their work
