Astro Geography: Tony Blair

Jupiter is the planet associated with luck, joy and expansion. It is also the royal planet and Blair has it rising straight through central London where he has enjoyed a great deal of success as Prime Minister. Jupiter/Ascendant is an excellent location to find popularity and to come across well (how a person comes across is a factor linked to the ascendant in astrology).

To my mind a crucial event in Blair setting himself up and being accepted by the establishment was his part in the aftermath of the death of Princess Diana and his subsequent connection with the British Royals. The royal inner circle made the mistake of showing little public sorrow at the death and not flying flags at half-mast; nowadays many seem to have forgotten that there was an almost revolutionary feeling amongst the public against the royal family over this. Subsequent to this Blair's political party advised them in the arts of public relations and the way the royal family come across shifted noticeably during the year that followed.

Blair has become increasingly presidential in style during his years in office and has survived many a crisis because he projects himself so well and is often lucky. All things being equal, luck is something you can find on a Jupiter line.

Not everything, however, is so rosy. Look at the local space Pluto line running to the East of London. This actually runs within 9 miles of Greenwich, close enough to be of relevance at the site of the massively unsuccessful Millennium Dome project. In 1997 Blair said the Dome was going to be "the most exciting thing to happen anywhere in the world in 2000". In wasn't - the Dome was a failure and quickly became notorious for two things - high cost and pointlessness. Originally built to mark the beginning of the new Millenium it soon became a white elephant. According to one website by 2003 it was costing 200,000 a month to maintain while standing empty. On the negative side Pluto is concerned with emptiness, pointlessness and nihilism. The Dome is now a perfect illustration of the downside of Pluto - forgotten, shabby and expensive.

Elsewhere Mars is found running through the Northern Irish capital Belfast. Here Blair has had to deal with a polarized society, conflict resolution and the danger of the peace he helped negotiate coming to an end. A classic scenario involving the red planet.
